Science Extension Mentoring Program

Connecting high school students with research mentors to enhance their science investigation skills during the HSC Science Extension course.

The Science Extension Mentoring Program offers NSW Year 12 students tailored support while undertaking the HSC Science Extension course. Through this program, students are matched with research mentors from the University of Sydney, who provide personalised guidance during the first six months of their science investigation.


Program Details

  • Program Duration: December 2024 to May 2025
  • Application Deadline for Mentees: Sunday, 24 November 2024
  • Mentor Availability: Placement in the program depends on the availability of mentors and the details provided in your application, so not all applicants may receive a mentor match.

Application Instructions

  • Students: To submit a mentee application, please use the External Login Using Email button.
  • Teachers: To create a profile to supervise your students, please use the External Login Using Email button.
  • Mentors: To create a mentor profile, please use the University Student & Staff Login with your Unikey.

All mentoring interactions occur online (via email, video calls, or phone) under the supervision of the student’s teacher. This is an e-mentoring program, so no lab equipment or access is provided as part of the program. Contact times are flexible and arranged to fit the schedules of the teacher, student, and mentor.
